From Our Family Farm
To Your Family Table
Where It All Started
Richard Schmidt started his first kitchen job at the age of 12 when Brentwood Bowling Alley, where his parents were in a weekly league, hired him as a dishwasher. He was quickly promoted, however, and excelled in classic grilled sandwiches and other lounge fare. Later he worked through the ranks at fine St. Louis establishments like, Ron & Shirley’s, Dierdorf & Hart’s, Westwood Country Club, and the Ritz Carlton as well as the Ritz- Amelia Island in Florida perfecting his culinary skills. In 1993 he opened the first of his own restaurants, The Southern Tip on Amelia Island, followed by Café Linguini in St. Louis in 2003.
Richard retired from the restaurant business in 2008 and together with his wife, Sharon, and kids, Luke and Natalie bought a farm in Union, Missouri. There, along with, Hank, the family black lab and, Jojo the cat, they got away from the stress of the “Biggest, Small Town in America” and could live an old-fashioned, hard-working, clean-air, neighborly, family-values existence in the country…
What We Do
Schmidt Family Farms was born and producing superior meat with quality as our number one goal. We were proud to be locally breeding and raising all-natural Angus & Angus Cross Cattle as well as Pigs and Chicken. With the addition of a garden, Richard was now able to use home-grown vegetables and farm fresh eggs in addition to the meat to compliment his great amount of experience in the kitchen.
Now the same grass-fed, and grain finished beef, pork and chicken—all without any hormones and no antibiotics is being made available for purchase to the public in the St. Louis Metropolitan area in bulk. Soon packaged and subscription services will be offered as well. Schmidt Family Farms operates on the the same old-fashioned, hard-working, clean-air, neighborly, family values that brought them here in the first place…
